Novella card and review
Cover, screenshots, genres and tags, age rating and the AI notice — everything shown in the catalogue — and what to do if a version is rejected.
Where the card lives
The card is what readers see in the catalogue and on the novella page: cover, description, genres, rating. It opens two ways: in the library with the “Novella settings” gear on the cover, or in the editor with the Publish button.
The window’s tabs: Basics — cover, title, description, banner, screenshots and the AI notice; Genres & tags — everything people find the novella by, plus the age rating; then Visibility, Language and Stats. A number on a tab shows how many required fields there are still empty.
From the library there are two buttons at the bottom: Save stores the card, “Publish · v…” releases a new version right away. From the editor there’s only Publish. Readers see the card from the released version, so a new description and genres reach them with the next publish. The required-fields checklist and where a version goes are covered in the Publishing article.
Cover and banner
The cover is a vertical 3:4 PNG, JPG or WEBP up to 8 MB. Drag a file into the frame on the Basics tab or click it. Once a cover is in, it gets Crop, Generate, Replace and Remove buttons, and the magnifier shows it up close. The cover is saved the moment it’s in place — even if you close the window without publishing.
Generate draws a cover with AI — like any generation, it costs credits. Below the cover is the Showcase banner: a wide 24:7 image used as the spotlight backdrop, and optional; without it a blurred cover is used. The banner can be generated too.
Animate turns the cover into a seamless loop: it plays on hover in the catalogue and on the showcase hero poster. Next to it, “Clip from assets” makes one of the novella’s existing videos the live cover, and “Remove animation” takes the clip off. Both buttons appear once a cover is in place, and only with a Premium, Creator or Studio subscription.
- Click Generate — the “AI cover” panel opens under the frame.
- The “What to draw” field already holds a prompt built from the novella’s title, description and genres. Edit it — the ↶ button next to the field rebuilds it from the card.
- The “Write the title on the image” box is on from the start: the AI draws the text from the field below it. “Base it on an image” builds the cover from a character sprite, a backdrop from the novella or a picture of your own.
- Choose how many Variants you want — 1, 2 or 4 — click Generate and click the one you like.
Screenshots
Screenshots are a gallery of frames on the novella page, up to 8, and optional. Add uploads pictures from your device. “Grab from novella” captures up to 6 random frames of your scenes by itself — with characters and lines; click it again and it picks more frames from other scenes. The cross removes a frame you don’t want.
Unlike the cover, screenshots are saved with Save or Publish, and they show up on the novella page after publishing.
Genres, tags and rating
The Genres & tags tab holds everything people find the novella by. Publishing requires Origin (your own story or fan fiction), Genres — up to three, Romance line, Protagonist with Love interests, and Story status. In the checklist the protagonist and love interests appear as “Who meets whom”. A gen story needs no love interests.
Subgenres narrow a genre down — up to three per selected genre. Tags — up to 10, English only: latin letters and digits. Under the field are suggestions: “Where to start”, “Fit your genres” and “Popular now”.
Age rating — “All ages”, “16+” or “18+”; moderation may change it. Slash and femslash are always 18+, and the other buttons are disabled then. 16+ is a label for readers, while 18+ opens only for those who are 18 or older. With 18+, a row of “What the story contains” marks appears under the rating: the ones you tick become tags, and readers can filter such stories out.
- Open the Genres & tags tab.
- Set the origin, up to three genres and their subgenres.
- Fill in the romance line, the protagonist and love interests, and the story status.
- Type tags in English — Enter after each one — or click the suggestions under the field.
- Pick the age rating; with 18+, tick the “What the story contains” marks.
The “made with AI” notice
The Basics tab has a “What was made with AI (at least in part)” block: Images, Text, Music and sound, Voice-over, Video. Tick everything AI helped with — readers see it as a small line under the description, for example “Made with AI (in part): images, music and sound”.
Only you tick these boxes — the studio never ticks them for you, even if the novella has generated content. The notice is saved with the card, by Save or Publish.
If the novella has generated content, the last box can only be cleared through the “Clear the AI notice?” window: there you confirm the material was not made by AI or that you reworked it substantially. That’s your declaration — it is stored together with the date.
Review and appeals
A version released to the catalogue goes through review first. The status shows on the version chip next to the title in the editor’s top bar — a clock while it’s being checked, a tick once approved, a cross if rejected; hover the chip to read the explanation. The details are in the library on the In moderation tab.
There each released version has its own status: In review, Approved, Rejected or Rolled back — the last one means an earlier version was made public again; a private version shows Private. A rejected one also says who decided (“Decided automatically” or “Decided by a moderator”), what the check flagged and where — say, the cover or a backdrop in a particular scene. A novella that was taken down is marked “Novella taken down”, with the reason next to it.
An appeal is reviewed by a person, not by automation. The answer comes within 20 calendar days; its status (Appeal submitted, Appeal under review, Appeal granted or Appeal rejected) and the moderator’s reply show in the same row. A decision can be appealed within six months, at most twice.
- In the library open the In moderation tab.
- On a rejected version or a taken-down novella click “Appeal this decision”.
- In “Your explanation” write why the decision is wrong and what the moderator should check — at least 10 characters.
- Click “Submit appeal” — you get a case number and the date you’ll have an answer by.
FAQ
Why does the catalogue still show the old card? It shows the card from the released version. A new description, genres and cover reach readers with the next publish.
Can a translation have its own cover? Yes: on the Language tab a translation has a “Cover for this language” field. Without it, readers in that language see the original cover, and a generated one carries the title in the translated language.
Why is there no Animate button? The live cover comes with a Premium, Creator or Studio subscription, and only once a still cover is in place.
Why can’t I pick 16+ for a slash story? Slash and femslash always carry an 18+ rating, so the other rating buttons are disabled for them.
Why won’t a tag in Russian go in? Catalogue tags are English only: latin letters and digits.
Can a co-author edit the card? No: the cover, description and publishing are up to the novella’s owner, while co-authors work on the story itself.
