Achievements

How to create an achievement on the Badges tab, give it an icon, grant it with an Achievement step, and what readers see: the popup, the list with rarity and locked “???”.

The Badges tab

Achievements reward the reader for what they’ve done: found a secret branch, reached the ending, collected all the gold. They live on the Badges tab in the bottom row of the left panel. Each one in the list shows its icon, title and description; the pencil opens it for editing, the bin deletes it.

A deleted achievement also disappears from every step that granted it. Changed your mind? Click “Restore” in the deletion message.

A new achievement

The “{}” button by the title and description inserts a variable: in the player it’s replaced with its current value — “{gold} gold collected”.

“Set on unlock” changes variables at the moment the achievement is granted — for example, “plot completed = true”.

The achievement popup is dressed in the novella’s frame while the unified frame style is on (Novella → Frames). Turn it off and the achievement gets its own “Popup theme”.

  1. Open the Badges tab and click “+ Achievement” under the list.
  2. Type the Title — the reader sees it in the popup. In Description, say what it’s for.
  3. Choose an icon — more on that below.
  4. Set the Placement — Top, Center or Bottom — and the Animation: Drop from the top, Rise from the bottom, Zoom, Fade in, Flip or Bounce.
  5. If you like, pick an “Unlock sound”.
  6. Click “Create the achievement”. It won’t work without a title.

The icon

Under the icon square are three buttons. File uploads your own picture — PNG, JPEG or WebP. Icon opens twenty built-in symbols: a cup, a medal, a star, a flame, a shield, a flag, a heart and more. Without an icon the achievement shows a cup.

Generate draws the icon with AI from a description: “a golden cup on a dark background”. A title is needed first — the picture gets tied to the achievement. Clicking a finished picture makes it the icon, and the picture also lands in the library. Generation costs credits.

How to grant it

An achievement is granted by the Achievement step on the Basic tab of an Action block. The same step is in the actions of a line and of a choice option — behind the lightning button on their card: that way the achievement goes exactly to whoever picked that option.

There’s no separate Achievement node any more — granting is done by a step only. Old nodes of that kind turned into steps by themselves.

  1. In Dialogs, press “Action” under the node timeline — or the lightning on a line or a choice option.
  2. On the Basic tab, click Achievement.
  3. In the step’s row, pick the achievement from the list. The sliders icon next to it opens it for editing.
  4. Press Play and reach the step — the popup shows just as it will for the reader.

What the reader sees

When the step fires, an “Achievement unlocked” card pops up over the scene with the icon, title and description — in the chosen place, with the chosen animation and sound. The longer its text, the longer it stays: from 3 to 9 seconds.

Achievements earned while reading are listed in the player’s Stats. The novella page shows all of them at once: unlocked and locked. A locked one has “???” instead of the title and the caption “Hidden achievement” — the title stays secret until it’s earned. Unlocked achievements also sit in the reader’s profile, grouped by novella, unless they’ve hidden them.

Rarity

Each achievement shows the reader what share of players got it: “62% of players got it”, and for the rarest, “fewer than 1% got it”. The percentage shows on locked achievements too: it isn’t a spoiler by itself. The platform works rarity out — you don’t set it.

The percentages appear once enough people have started reading the novella: a share of one reader means nothing. Only signed-in readers who started the novella count, over all time. The author sees the same shares in the novella’s stats right away, with no threshold.

Frequently asked questions

How do I grant an achievement only under a condition? Put the Achievement step in its own Action block and give the block a condition with the “if” button — or put the step in the actions of the option that leads to that branch.

What if the step fires twice? The card shows again with a “×2” counter, but on the novella page and in the reader’s profile it’s still one achievement.

How do I translate an achievement? In Dialogs, on a language tab, achievements have their own Achievements block: the title and description in each language.

How do I set one sound for all achievements? Novella → Gameplay, the Audio section, “Achievement sound”. It plays for achievements without a sound of their own; there’s no sound by default.
